The Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper (QWEL) program trains landscape professionals to design, install, and maintain water-efficient outdoor spaces. This nationally recognized certification is supported by the District and regional water agencies.

Participants learn how soil, plants, and irrigation systems interact within the local climate. Coursework includes water budgeting, plant selection, and system troubleshooting. Graduates gain practical skills that reduce water waste while supporting healthy landscapes and long-term resource reliability. These programs strengthen professional practice while contributing to regional water resiliency goals.

Standards
The District partners with local cities, irrigation experts, and landscape associations to make QWEL certification available to professionals throughout the Inland Empire. Classes are taught by certified trainers and meet standards established by the California Landscape Contractors Association. How to Register for a QWEL Training
1. Visit the Become a QWEL Professional page.
2. In Step 1, click on the Training Calendar.
3. Select the class and location you are able to attend.
4. Click on the event/class listed. This will take you to a new page with all course details.
5. At the bottom of that page, choose your registration option:
– Log in (for existing users)
– Create an account (for new users)
