Classroom Education
and Resources

Learning from the Local Landscape

Through a long-term partnership with the Inland Empire Resources Conservation District, the District works with schools, teachers, and community partners to integrate water and environmental science into classroom instruction. Through hands-on lessons and guided field visits, students explore how groundwater recharge, local geology, and ecosystem management sustain the San Bernardino Valley.

Programs are tailored to grade level and aligned with state education standards. They emphasize observation, inquiry, and stewardship, encouraging students to see the Wash and surrounding landscape as part of their community’s living infrastructure.

Building Educational Partnerships

The District collaborates with local school districts, science educators, and regional agencies such as the San Bernardino County Museum to expand access to natural resource education. Schools can request presentations, tours, and classroom materials developed by the District and its education team. Participation builds long-term awareness of how water systems work and inspires future leaders in conservation science.

Teachers and schools are invited to connect with the District to schedule classroom programs, hands-on field visits, facility tours, or to have District staff participate in career fairs. Participation provides students with immersive learning experiences that highlight local water systems, groundwater recharge, and ecosystem management, fostering curiosity, stewardship, and future leadership in conservation science.

Tools for Teaching
Stewardship

The District offers free educational materials that help teachers bring water and conservation topics to life. These resources show students how science, engineering, and environmental care intersect in their own community.

Educational material includes:

Lesson
plans

Activity
sheets

Interactive
maps

All materials are adaptable for in-person or remote instruction. Teachers can download guides that explain groundwater recharge, native habitats, and the regional water cycle. These resources are designed to complement school curricula while meeting California Science Standards.

Connecting
with the District

Educators are encouraged to collaborate directly with District staff to plan field trips, guest lectures, and lab-based demonstrations. Staff can assist with content integration, local data, and access to monitoring sites. The District continues to expand its library of educator tools to ensure every classroom has access to accurate, local water science information.
